Our undergraduate courses provide many opportunities to gain valuable work experience – both in the UK and overseas.
Megan Greaves spent the summer of 2013 in Orson, Pennsylvania at Camp America, working and living alongside children to improve her teaching skills.
Megan believes the experience will benefit her in the future: "Throughout the summer I worked very long hours and had little time to myself. I shared basic accommodation with up to 12 girls who I was in charge of with the assistance of another counsellor.
"Many of the children had returned from previous years, spending most of their summer holiday on camp. We were secluded from the outside world and all I knew was the camp and camp life. We occasionally had day trips to waterparks, shopping malls and cinema.
"The camp offered an array of facilities including, circus school, rock shop, performing arts, horseback, water sports and much more. During the day I taught hip-hop to beginners, intermediate and advanced.
"The children were always enthusiastic and eager to learn. At night there were always evening activities requiring input from all staff members.
"I’ve had the best time, making many lifelong friends and gained a vast amount of knowledge and experience in teaching and learning with children, staff members and being part of a valued team. I will definitely be returning."
